Tips and Resource Links

Here you can find information on animal control facilities across the Greater Kansas City area, as well as information on what to do with a lost or found animal. Also, feel free to visit our Contact Us page if you have questions for us.

Tips For Finding a Lost Animal

  • Call and alert surrounding animal shelters, animal control and police departments. Provide the breed, size, sex, color, name and where it was lost and last seen. If the police department does not ask for your phone number, make sure that you give it to them. Continue to call each day or every other day for updates.
  • Make flyers that include:
    • Lost announcement
    • Your pet’s picture
    • Your pet’s name, size and sex
    • A phone number to reach you
  • Put flyers on mailboxes, bus stops, etc.
  • Get the community involved! Inform the mailman, UPS worker, construction workers, etc.
  • Use social media and ask friends to share it.

Tips If You Have Found an Animal

  • Safety first! Approach the animal with caution. They are likely scared and could react dangerously.
  • If you are able to approach the animal and it has tags, call the information on the tags.
  • If the animal is not tagged, take the animal to a nearby veterinarian’s office to see if the dog has a registered microchip.
  • In case these fail, the Kansas City Star’s Classifieds will publish found pets for free!
